Breaking News — Hurricane warning lifted for state; DR officials remain on alert

HOMEWOOD — While the National Hurricane Center has lifted the hurricane warning that was in effect for the Alabama coast, the rains have started impacting the area.

“Dauphin Island has already lost power and will be turning off the water soon on the West end,” Thomas Wright, executive director of missions (DOM) for Mobile Baptist Association, said around 11 a.m. today. “A 30-[kilowatt] generator is already on the way to Dauphin Island Baptist Church. Pastor Chris Schansberg is opening their facility to the community.”

Recent reports from Bayou La Batre and Coden also indicate heavy rain and wind bands but no damage, he noted.
