Stan Coffey, founding Southern Baptist Texas Convention president, dies

AMARILLO, Texas (BP) — Stan Coffey, longtime Amarillo pastor who served as the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention’s founding president, died Dec. 26 after an extended illness. He was 68. Coffey served Southern Baptist churches in Texas, New Mexico and Arkansas for 40-plus years. He was pastor of The Church at Quail Creek, Amarillo (formerly San Jacinto Baptist Church) for nearly 35 years, from 1975–79 and from 1984 until his death.
