Shahan escorted back to Alabama

BIRMINGHAM (TAB) — Richard Shahan, who was arrested for the murder of his wife Jan. 1 at the Nashville International Airport, was escorted to the Jefferson County Jail on Jan. 8. Shahan had waived extradition during a hearing in Nashville on Jan. 7. He will be held, without bond, until cell assignment and classification can be determined in Alabama. Karen Shahan’s body was discovered in their Homewood home July 23 around 11:15 a.m. Richard Shahan served as the children and families pastor at First Baptist Church, Birmingham, and then was on paid administrative leave since August. He had announced his plan to leave the United States for Germany to work for three years with Bible Mission International.
