BIRMINGHAM (TAB) — Richard Shahan’s attorneys Wendell Sheffield and John Lentine said in a motion filed Jan. 10 that their client has no criminal record and has been gainfully employed throughout his life and are asking a judge to set a “reasonable” bond not to exceed $30,000 for his release. The motion says continuing to hold Shahan, who has been charged with murdering his wife, Karen Shahan, would be “unreasonable, punitive and in violation” of his constitutional rights. The motion also says Richard Shahan will agree to special conditions of release, such as not leaving the state, house arrest or electronic monitoring, according to Associated Baptist Press.
