SBC Executive Committee President affirms importance of rural churches

JOHNSTON, S.C. (BP, TAB) — Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee President Frank Page heralded the importance of small, rural churches in an address given at the bicentennial celebration of Philippi Baptist Church in Johnston, S.C.

“Churches like Philippi [which averages 150 in attendance] are the backbone of Southern Baptist life,” Page said. “By far the majority of our churches are small in size.”

Page went on to affirm that smaller, rural churches continue to supply leaders in every area of Convention life, saying that they are “great sources of talent, commitment and sacrifice.”
