Moore, other religious liberty advocates urge action for release of Christian Sudanese mother

NASHVILLE (TAB, BP) — Meriam Ibrahim, a mother of a toddler and eight months pregnant, refused to denounce her faith in Christ, even after a Sudanese judge in Khartoum, Sudan, sentenced her to death May 15. The president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, Russell D. Moore, recently urged Secretary of State John Kerry to denounce Ibrahim’s sentence as “cruel and inhumane, to demand her release, and to use the diplomatic influence of the State Department to advocate for this most fundamental human right, the freedom of religion and belief.”
