Survey: Prayer often ‘red phone for help’

NASHVILLE (BP, TAB) — A new LifeWay Research survey conducted Aug. 7 revealed that prayer is primarily a plea for personal aid and the prayer life may not be “rooted in a relationship with God,” said Ed Stetzer, executive director of LifeWay Research. The online survey found that along with prayers being focused on themselves (74 percent) and their friends and family (82 percent), Americans said that at least some of their prayers have been answered (83 percent) and most don’t pray for politicians (12 percent). Overall, 48 percent of Americans say they pray at least every day, with 65 percent saying they pray at least once a month.
