BIRMINGHAM (TAB) — Former pastor Richard Shahan, who was accused of killing his wife, entered a plea of not guilty today. Jefferson County Circuit Judge Laura Petro ruled on two pre-trial motions this morning — one a routine preservation of evidence and the other a grant of 90 days for prosecutors to begin providing defense attorneys with more of the case evidence collected so far. Judge Petro will address the other five motions in the next hearing scheduled for May 7. Until then, Shahan will remain under house arrest. Karen Shahan was stabbed to death in the couple’s home in Homewood in July 2013. At the time, Shahan served as children and families pastor at First Baptist Church, Birmingham, where his wife sang in the choir.
