BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) — Three states have acted swiftly to accomplish what the U.S. Senate could not — defund Planned Parenthood (PP).
Alabama, Louisiana and New Hampshire all have eliminated funding for the country’s leading abortion provider after the release of videos providing evidence PP trades in baby body parts. Since mid-July, an investigative group has released five undercover videos that show PP officials discussing the sale of organs from aborted children for research. It is expected more videos will be released in the next few weeks.
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley announced the defunding in an Aug. 6 letter to PP Southeast.
“The deplorable practices at Planned Parenthood have been exposed to Americans, and I have decided to stop any association with the organization in Alabama,” Bentley said in a written statement, according to The Birmingham News. “As a doctor and Alabama’s governor, the issue of human life, from conception to birth and beyond, is extremely important. I respect human life and do not want Alabama to be associated with an organization that does not.”
