LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (Arkansas Baptist News, TAB) — Gary Hollingsworth, former Alabama Baptist pastor and current president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention (ABSC), has been tapped to serve as executive director-treasurer of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
Hollingsworth currently serves as pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas.
He announced that he will be formally voted on to serve in the post at a special called meeting of the South Carolina convention board Jan. 14. He made the announcement during Sunday morning services at the Little Rock church, Jan. 10.
Hollingsworth was elected to serve as president of the ABSC in November 2015 in Hot Springs.
The Alabama native has served in a number of capacities throughout his years in ministry. In 1996, Hollingsworth served for nearly 10 years as pastor of First Baptist Church, Trussville. He also has served as pastor of a church in Kentucky and at the historic First Baptist Church, Alexandria, Virginia.
Hollingsworth also has served as chairman of the board of trustees for the Alabama State Board of Missions, president of Alabama’s pastor’s conference, vice president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention and as senior director of cultural evangelism for the North American Mission Board. In 2007, Hollingsworth became the 16th senior pastor of Immanuel Baptist.
He was recognized with the 2013 Distinguished Baptist Minister Award by Williams Baptist College (WBC) in Walnut Ridge.
