MONTGOMERY — With the emphasis of “Sharing Across Alabama,” the 2016 State Evangelism Conference opened with a combined choir of First Baptist Church, Clanton, and Dalraida Baptist Church welcoming participants to the event Feb. 29 at First Baptist Church, Montgomery. Musicians from the University of Mobile’s RamCorps also accompanied the choir.

Musical guest Charles Billingsley energetically led in worship during the evening session prior to a message from Steve Gaines, pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church, Cordova, Tennessee.

Gaines shared from Exodus 6, noting that the Lord gave seven “I will’s” that applied to the Hebrew people in Egypt but also apply to the people of America today.

God promises in the passage that He will “bring you out, deliver you, redeem you, make you His people, He will be your God and you will know it, He will bring you to the land He promised and He will bring you through the wilderness to get to it, and will give you the land as a possession,” Gaines said, “all because He is the Lord.”

“Listen, you’re not holding on to God, God is holding on to you. I don’t care what you’re going through, God will bring you through,” Gaines said.

“I am concerned about our nation. … We need for God to come to America again. … I’m tired of seeing what man can do. I’m ready to see what God will do … because He is Lord.”

Don Wilton, pastor of First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, South Carolina, shared from the Book of Revelation and said, “This is very urgent, I’m going to ask you to give your life to Christ tonight.

“Jezebel has found her way into the front row of the average Southern Baptist church. In Revelation Chapter 3, God says, ‘You are so good at handing out bottles of water and so good at starting churches and so good at digging wells and so good at sending money to send missionaries and so good about making new logos to raise more money — but there’s something so wrong. You give the impression that you’re alive but you’re dead.’ That’s why I want to invite you to give your life to Christ,” Wilton said.

“When you give your life to Christ you become clothed in His righteousness — you wear Jesus. Jesus is in you and you are in Him. It is in Him that we live and move and have our being.”
