Richard Shahan
BIRMINGHAM (TAB) — The trial of former Birmingham pastor Richard Shahan has been delayed to January 9, 2017, a setback of nine months from the original April 18 trial date.
Judge Laura Petro changed the trial date March 11, but did not explain why it was delayed. John Lentine, one of the attorneys representing Shahan, said in an email, “There are a variety of outstanding issues in the case plus several trial conflicts with the lawyers that lead to this date (January 2017) being set,” according to al.com.
Shahan has entered a “not guilty” plea in the stabbing murder of his wife, Karen, who was found dead in their Homewood home July 23, 2013. The defense is arguing that Shahan did not kill his wife but that someone broke into their home and killed her.
