Sixth Avenue Baptist Church accounting manager accused of theft turns herself in

BIRMINGHAM (TAB) — A woman accused of stealing more than $100,000 from Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, Birmingham, turned herself in to authorities May 10.

Tamika Lanese Bailey, who was the church’s accounting manager until January 2016, diverted more than $93,000 for her personal use and more than $50,000 to a dead relative, according to The theft took place from February 2014 to December 2015.

Bailey is charged with first-degree theft of property.

In a statement, Sixth Avenue Baptist assured its members that extra financial security precautions have been put into practice and “through the grace of God, our church is, and remains, on very solid financial footing.”
