Building a bustling Birmingham

The steel frame of the Watts Building during its construction in 1927. The contractor on the building was Mr. Charlie Allen Sr. who built the Jefferson Theatre and many other large buildings around Birmingham. During the construction at about the stage shown in the photograph above, a steel beam slipped free while being hoisted aloft and crashed down. Thankfully no one was injured.
