The paper finds its new home

A decade after being elected editor Baggett led an effort to move the paper from rented space to the first building the publication ever owned. Baggett is shown here speaking at the groundbreaking for the new building with an artist’s rendering at his feet. Looking on is Alabama Baptist Executive Director George Bagley. The new building was located at 3310 Independence Drive in Birmingham.

Editor Hudson Baggett’s vision for The Alabama Baptist to own its first building came to fruition the year after the groundbreaking. Pictured above is the dedication of the building in 1976. The paper is still published out of this building in Homewood, Alabama. The Alabama Baptist file photo
